GLORY TO UKRAINE
The concept for this piece originates from a anti-Vietnam War poster. "Send Them Tractors Not Tanks" It depicts a tractor above the text and a tank below. Silk-screened in green ink on the verso of a computer print-out. Attributed to U.C. Berkeley students, circa 1970.
Ukrainian farmers have played a pivotal role in the war with Russia. There has been no shortage of social media content, with farmers, risking their lives, seen towing away Russian tanks, missile launchers, and other various heavy artillery.
The tractor is now seen as a symbol of resistance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the farmers in a speech: “Our ‘tractor troops’ — Ukrainian farmers — take Russian equipment in the fields and give it to our Armed Forces of Ukraine.” Across the country, professional and amateur mechanics take Russian military equipment, restore it, paint the blue and yellow flag on top of the Russian symbols, and hand it to their army for free.
